PACKING & MOVING TIPS

IN NASHVILLE AND MIDDLE TN

BEST WAY TO PACK YOUR DISHES

Packing your glass dishes can be a stressful part of the moving process. Whether it's the nice dinnerware set you got as a wedding gift or grandma's old chia set, we want to make sure you have the proper knowledge on how to safely pack your dishes.

  • Use small/medium boxes so that they don't get loaded down and heavy.
  • Make sure the bottom of the box is nice and sealed so that it doesn't break when full.
  • Lay a towel or dish towel in the bottom of the box. This helps absorb some shock from the bottom when picking the box up and setting it down -  you can also use wadded up newspaper in place of the towels!
  • Use packing paper, newspaper, or bubblewrap to cover the front and back of the plate. It should overlay like a paperback book's cover.
  • Stack them from side to side rather than up and down.
  • Once you've packed the box tight, use another towel or dish towel to line the top of the box.
  • Seal the top up nice and tight and label the box!

HOW TO PACK UP FOOD ITEMS FOR MOVING

Are you unsure of how to pack the contents of your refrigerator? Do you normally just toss it in a box and hope for the best? Instead of tossing them in a box or throwing them out, use these helpful tips!

  • Toss out expired foods. There's no need to keep them around if they're expired before the move.
  • When packing cold items, place them all in a box together. Be sure to mark this box with "perishable" or some other word that will remind you to get these things into the fridge asap!
  • Pack your freezer items in a cooler with as many ice packs as you have.
  • DONATE! If you're feeling extra generous, take your canned goods to your local food pantry. They'll love the donation!
  • Cook at home! The easiest way to cut down on packing these items is by doing what they were intended for - eating! Make your friends miss you even more by baking them things too.
  • Finally, set aside some money to go grocery shopping for the items you had to throw out/cook.

OTHER HELPFUL PACKING TIPS

  • When packing boxes, place the heavier items on bottom and the lighter ones on top.
  • Towels, dish towels, and wash clothes make great substitutes for packing paper and bubblewrap.
  • Be sure to label the box with both the destination of the box and the contents.
  • Go on a cleaning spree before you start packing. Get rid of unwanted items, anything expired, or things you no longer use. Donate what you can!
  • Use suitcases for heavy items such as books. The wheels make it really easy to move heavy items!
